AWANA exists solely to further the gospel of Jesus Christ. Its focal point, and belief, is that the greatest impact for Christ begins with children. The threefold functions of AWANA are to reach kids, equip leaders, and ultimately change the world!
Temple Baptist’s AWANA program begins each Wednesday night at 6:15 pm and runs until 7:45 pm and is run with AWANA’s principles and purposes in mind. We have some of the finest volunteers operating this ministry. There are weekly opportunities for your children to be involved in this hands-on, fun program, as well as regularly scheduled activities to keep clubbers connected to one another, as well as engaged & encouraged by our leaders!
The clubs are divided by age groups and each take part in three “times” each night: Large Group Time, Handbook Time, and Game Time.
During Large Group Time, clubbers learn about the Bible through devotionals, missionary stories, and object lessons. This time is engaging and impactive and an appropriate length for each age group.
Handbook Time is a time for clubbers to practice and recite Scripture verses memorized during the previous week, planting the seeds of Scripture in children’s minds and hearts. As an added incentive, clubbers receive awards for reaching milestones in their handbooks during the year.
Game Time engages clubbers in enjoyable AWANA games and contributes to the overall excitement of the night. Game leaders encourage clubbers to have a spirit of teamwork and have fun! Our volunteers work hard to be earnestly involved in the lives of these young children during both Bible times and fun times.
The age groups are broken up as follows:
PUGGLES: 2/3 year old
Director: Regina Shelton
In Puggles, children are welcomed each week with play time, songs and simple crafts and activities. Leaders present age-appropriate lessons using large, colorful teaching cards, finger puppet plays and more. Lessons teach and reinforce four basic biblical precepts:
- God Made Everything
- God Saw That It Was Good
- God is Love
- Give Thanks
CUBBIES: 4/5 year old
Director : Regina Shelton
Awana is fun with a purpose, to reach and train kids for Jesus Christ. Games, puppets, crafts, awards and other activities transform our preschool program into a lively weekly experience where fun and learning go hand in hand. The Cubbies curriculum features two handbooks written in a fun, storybook style that appeals to preschoolers. Each section combines basic Scripture memory with parent-child activities to help a child grasp a simple biblical truth. Two extra-credit handbooks containing additional memory verses and character-building activities are also available.
SPARKS: K/1st/2nd grades
Director: Chantelle Fitzwater
Sparks club meetings combine learning with fun to create an atmosphere of irresistible excitement for churched and unchurched kids alike. The curriculum takes kids a step deeper into God’s Word while giving unsaved boys and girls regular opportunitiesto hear the Gospel and come to faith in Jesus Christ. After being immersed in solid foundational teaching at the preschool level, boys and girls frequently come to an understand of their need to trust Christ as their personal Savior while in Sparks.
Truth & Training: 3rd – 5th grades
Director: Jessica Young
The name Truth & Training reflects the passion of Awana to teach third through sixth grade boys and girls the truth of God’s Word and to train them to follow Christ in their daily lives. Our goal is that many of today’s young people will become tomorrow’s church leaders. T&T is the program that trains the leaders of tomorrow – today. Each of the four handbooks in our Truth & Training clubs investigates four questions. Eight answers from the Bible are provided for each question. Children will learn all eight answers to each of the questions and verses to back up these answers. The handbooks also include Bible studies and activities that allow children to delve into the subject matter.
